For many of us, silence doesn’t feel golden—it feels uncomfortable. When the world gets quiet, we’re left with our own thoughts, emotions, and truths. And that can be challenging.
A few weeks ago, I hiked Huron Peak, a 14er here in Colorado, completely on my own—no music, no phone, no distractions. Just me, my breath, and the trail. It was tough. At times I wanted to turn back, but pushing through gave me something deeper: the chance to really listen inward.
Along the way, I noticed how many hikers carried speakers and played music out loud. It struck me how hard it’s become for us to just “be.” We live with constant background noise—TV, music, phones. But the truth is, that noise keeps us disconnected from the inner guidance we all crave. Whether you call it God, Spirit, or the Universe, silence is the space where we can truly connect.
Since then, I’ve made it a daily practice to sit in silence—just me, no distractions—for at least an hour. And it’s been life-changing. Silence slows me down, grounds me, and helps me hear what I really need to hear.
A Challenge for You
I encourage you to start small:
- Take just 5 minutes a day with no music, no phone, no TV.
- Breathe, sit still, and notice what comes up.
- Allow yourself to feel a little uncomfortable at first—it gets easier.
With practice, you may find that silence isn’t empty at all—it’s full of answers, healing, and connection.
At Pilates Plus Cherry Hills, we believe in nurturing the mind, body, and spirit. Sometimes that begins with simply learning to embrace stillness.
